John from the bar

Well I just had an hour conversation with John at the bar called classic jacks. John was a late 40's heavy set man who was pretty neat. He introduced himself as owning a cleaning company, security company and a doctor. Well at least he aspired to be a doctor. He also told me that he was cut by the Chicago Bulls and loves the game of basketball. His Hobbies were Working out and Church (his church has a billion members - he later told me his church was Catholicism).

As the diet Pepsi flowed through his cup we discused the nuances of religion and the differences of Catholicism and Christianity. John had quite a lot of difficulty getting his point across with me but in that his message came across clear. Life is about being the best person you can be. He was a regular at classic jacks. Every waitress that walked by knew his name and the bar tender never let his Pepsi go dry. He was the regular that every one liked. He repeated a few jokes to me and quit sentences in the middle but John had my attention. The one theme that he kept bringing up was to do good and treat one another fairly. He was not an average man, his heart was twice as big any one else's.
He welcomed me to Calgary about 3 times and asked me how the bombers were doing. We laughed about many things.

John mostly walked or took the transit he said but he did drive from time to time. When he did drive he went to this neat ice cream shop "just over there" that has a piano in it. I told him I would like to go sometime.

Finally 8 o'clock came and he had to go. So I bought him his diet Pepsi and told him I hoped to see him again.

John helped me remember that it is not the little things that matter but it is how you conduct yourself that gets you from day to day.

The bar tender said that John frequents a few local bars and when he comes in he puts $10 in the tip jar and has a few pepsi's and leaves, the bar tender also told me he admired John's style and bravery.

I am not sure if John actually had a job and had too many real friends but I am sure that he enjoyed his outings and his goal to make people happy was successful tonight.

Stage 2 complete

Well I got the camera AND the lens...  Now I just have to learn how to use them at the same time ;)

So here is the best photo out of the first 15 I took.  Much to learn grass hoppa.  Work was good today, and I am slowly getting my machine setup to start dev work.  I went over another project with another Onliner that is very similar to the one I am supposed to make.  I also sent out an email to 6 of my co-workers asking them to come over for a house warming tomorrow and sadly only one said yes :(  I guess one days notice is just not enough.

I tell you, lugging my 17" laptop across town is getting old.  My shoulders feel like they are going to sink till they are touching my shoulder blades.  To add to it today, I stopped at Safeway on the way home to buy sugar, TP, and other such goodies.  I am starting to know what a Sherpa feels like.  I believe at one point I was swearing to myself so loudly on the street that people walking in front of me turned around to see what was such a big problem!

Look at this, I have my first center piece of my life!

Yip I moved in

Well I moved in last night and had to drag my bags across the parking lot from the hotel to the condo. Pretty sweet if you ask me. I will pick up the new camera today so hopefully you will see what the condo looks like in the next post. I do have to pick up the lens as well and that might take a bit. :)

First day

Well I made it. First day was better than I thought. My network account was set up (some of my co workers had to wait 3 weeks). I also got my security card too which normally takes way longer.  I had meetings all day and learnt more about the oil industry and In-situ ( a way of extracting the oil). More to come but looks like I am charged with making a dynamic sharepoint graph on temperature of the  downhole well.

I also just came from the condo viewing and it went well. Pretty nice condo with all the fixens except high def tv which I will probably order. Pretty big place with an older fridge and oven but how often do I use the oven. There is a 50" plasma though. A spare room for visitors :)

After the condo I went to my favorite snowboard shop and bought a camera bag for my new camera that is waiting for me at Lincolns buddies place.

So here I sit at classic jacks on 17th ave watching the flames games while digesting a super supple steak sandwich and washing it down with my my favorite beverage. It's been a while since I have sat at the bar and ate dinner by myself and it's not the same without Laura but I have my new bag (it's totally empty except for the price tag I took off and shoved in a pocket but I won't tell if you don't) beside me so I look like a traveler and not a total creeper.

Stayed tuned for the next posting as I try and work out the condo and get out out of the best western where I am scared the cleaning staff is going to steal my xbox or worse give me a bad rep on Forza 3!!!!!
